When a driveway sinks, homeowners assume the fix is demolition and a new pour — expensive, disruptive, and often unnecessary. The concrete itself is usually fine; the problem is the soil underneath it settled or washed away, leaving the slab unsupported so it dropped. Concrete leveling fixes the actual cause. We drill a set of small, coin-sized ports in the sunken slab and inject material beneath it that fills the empty space and floats the concrete back up to level. It's the same slab, just returned to where it started — and it's done in hours, not the days a replacement takes to demo, pour, and cure. This service goes by a lot of names — concrete lifting, concrete raising, slab jacking, polyjacking, mudjacking, foam injection — and they all describe this same idea of raising a slab from below instead of replacing it.
A high-density foam is injected through small holes, expanding to fill voids and lift the slab. It's lightweight so it won't overload already-settled soil, waterproof so it won't wash out, and it cures in minutes — you can usually drive on it the same day.
The traditional method pumps a cement-based slurry under the slab to raise it. It's a proven approach with a lower material cost, using slightly larger injection holes and a heavier fill.
Houston sits on some of the most active expansive clay soil in the country, and that soil is the reason concrete moves here. Through the region's swing from drought to heavy rain and flooding, the clay swells when wet and shrinks when it dries, constantly shifting the ground beneath your driveway. Add the washout that comes from poor drainage, downspouts dumping alongside the slab, or plumbing and irrigation leaks eroding the base, and you get voids under the concrete. The slab, no longer fully supported, cracks and drops into the empty space. That's why driveway settlement is so common across Houston neighborhoods — and why the durable fix addresses the void under the slab, not just the surface. Left alone, a sunken section keeps collecting water, which feeds more washout and more settling, so catching it early keeps the repair small.

We drill small ports in the sunken slab and inject material underneath that fills the void and lifts the concrete back to level. Modern jobs use polyurethane foam (polyjacking); the older method uses a cement-based slurry (mudjacking). Both raise the existing slab instead of tearing it out.
In Houston it's almost always the soil. Expansive clay swells and shrinks with wet-and-dry cycles, and washout from poor drainage erodes the base under the slab. When the soil under part of the driveway settles or washes away, that section drops.
Polyurethane foam is lighter, so it doesn't add weight to already-settled soil; it's waterproof and won't wash out; it cures in minutes so you can drive on it almost immediately; and the holes are smaller. Mudjacking is a proven, lower-material-cost option. We'll recommend the right method for your slab and soil.
